Aft Cabins

Port Aft Cabin

The aft cabins are mirror images of one another, and both are doubles, with a hanging locker, a cupboard, and shelves for clothing and misc items.

Under the port cabin berth: A second domestic freshwater tank and hot water tank (right) are located under the berth in this cabin.

The valves for switching between fore and aft domestic water tanks are located under the basin in the aft head.  As well, the domestic fresh water pump and in-line filter are also located underneath the basin.

Engine and transmission access: The engine muffler is located aft of the engine, along the centreline of the boat and can be accessed by removing the inboard access panel underneath the berths in either aft cabin. (right)

Access to the rudder system is through a panel at the aft end of each of the aft cabins, at the foot of the berth.

An engine access panel is located behind the cabin door.  This is the access panel you would use if it is necessary to shut off the raw water pickup. Although this seacock should be closed to check the strainer on some boats, this not necessary on Cassiopeia, and closing this valve is not a good idea except to open and close it occasionally to make sure it still turns freely.

The companionway door glass fits into a rack behind this same door for stowage while underway in good weather.

Starboard Aft Cabin

The aft cabins are mirror images of one another, and both are doubles, with a hanging locker, a cupboard, and shelves for clothing and misc items.

The fuel tank is located underneath the starboard aft berth and the fuel tank “urgency” shutoff (right) is located under the forward  edge of the berth.  In case of a fire, turn the red handle 90 degrees in either direction.

Access to the rudder system is located through a panel at the aft end of each of the aft cabins, at the foot of the berth.

An engine access panel is located behind the cabin door.  This panel provides easy access to the oil and water filters if necessary.  As well, it provides additional access to the raw water strainer.

The heater fan switch for the ESPAR furnace is located on the wall just aft of the engine access panel behind the cabin door.  It is a black rocker switch marked “Low’, “Medium” & “High” for the fan settings and controls the heat in both cabins.

IThe flux gate compass that controls the auto-pilot (right) is located in a cabinet in the starboard aft cabin.

The outside of the cabinet is marked with a yellow triangular caution sticker

It is important that you do not store metal objects near the flux gate, in particular anything that may contain a magnet as this will interfere with the functioning of the auto-pilot.

We recommend that only clothing be stored in or near this locker.

Furnace Fuses:

Fuses with cover in place (left). Simply press on yellow button at top of panel to remove cover.
